volcanic field

A region comprising a large number of volcanic edifices. Volcanic fields are usually associated with basaltic volcanism, and commonly comprise a number of small, monogenetic volcanoes (e.g. cinder cones, maars, tuff cones, tuff rings, small shield volcanoes, lava domes). Fields may form in linear trends associated with tectonic structures (such as faults), on the flanks of larger composite or shield volcanoes, or within calderas (Connor and Conway, 2000, p. 331).
